New Construction
Multi-purpose Building Update
Terry McIlvain, WCC Administrator
Approximately two years ago, the Webster Conference Center Board of Directors felt God was leading them to make a bold step of faith and build a multi-purpose building to meet the growing demands of the churches of Kansas and Nebraska. They responded and the fundraising for the new facility began. By October 2003, plans were firm on what to build, but the fund raising was moving slowly. After several months, only about $300,000 had be pledged and/or given to build this 1.5 million dollar facility. Then came my “crisis of belief”. A man offered to remove the trees on the building site and move dirt to prepare the site for construction, all at no cost to WCC, saving us thousands of dollars. I asked the board members, “Should we accept this offer and prepare to build when fund raising is moving so slowly?”
After prayer and discussion, the board members voted unanimously to accept this offer. Their statement was, “We are convinced this is what God has led us to do, and therefore, we will proceed even though the pledges and gifts do not seem to be coming in at this time. Prepare the land!” What happened next was a miracle only God could perform. The phone rang in my office a few weeks later and two individuals asked if they could meet with Peck and me. To make a long story short, we have now received cash gifts and pledges in excess of 1.6 million dollars to build this building.
Thank you for faithfully praying for God’s will to be done as we continue to walk by faith, not by sight, in order that we may be obedient to the vision God has given us at WCC.
The new building will include:
- A fully-equipped 200-seat Worship Center on the second floor.
- A multi-purpose room/gymnasium for worship and indoor recreation.
- An elevator to the second story of the new building as well as to the second and third stories of the Chapel.
- An enclosed bridge linking the existing Chapel and the Multi-Purpose Building.
- Several large meeting rooms capable of holding at least 75 people.
- A Canteen and Commons Area for meetings and fellowship.
Benefits when this building is completed:
- Worship services can be held by at least three groups at one time.
- Both buildings become handicap accessible.
- Seminar space is improved to match the housing capabilities which now exist.
- Exercise/recreation space is expanded from six month to year round capabilities.
- Most important: more people will be able to hear the Gospel and be trained for the work of the ministry.
